Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT or Tapping) is a technique you can learn very quickly and apply very simply in many situations. The technique combines elements of exposure and cognitive therapy, somatic stimulation and acupuncture. It is often referred to as ‘Tapping’ as it uses a two finger tapping process, tapping acupuncture points with a cognitive acceptance statement.
EFT has been researched in more than 10 countries, by more than 60 investigators, whose results have been published in more than 20 different peer-reviewed journals. EFT has been found useful for obesity, food cravings, smoking, phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, and pain.
How does it Work?
EFT appears to affect the amygdala (which is the stress centre in the brain) and hippocampus (the memory centre), both play a role when you decide if something is a threat or not. EFT has also been shown to lower cortisol levels, which is the stress hormone. Too much cortisol can result in lowered immune function and ultimately affect our physical health.
Therefore having a technique, which is quick to learn and can easily and effectively calm these brain centres and hormones is very useful for many people of all ages.
